TEHRAN, Dec. 06 (MNA) – The Iranian men's sabre team left for the US to attend 2015 Boston Sabre Grand Prix, which is also a qualifying step for the Rio Olympics.

The Iranian men's sabre squad at the Absolute Fencing Gear FIE Grand Prix Boston consists of Abedini, Pakdaman and Rahbari.

The US Sabre Grand Prix marks one of the major events which make up the Olympic qualification process.

Iranian fencers who managed to get 2012 Olympic quotas by Mojtaba Abedini after a few decades holds high hopes for the upcoming Rio Olympics.

With the Rio Olympic Games less than a year away, more than 300 saber fencers will travel from at least 30 nations to compete in the Absolute Fencing Gear FIE Grand Prix Boston from Dec. 12-13.

The two-day tournament will be held at Harvard University's Gordon Indoor Track and competition on Saturday, Dec. 12 will include the pools and preliminary rounds while the table of 64 and final medal rounds will be held on Sunday, Dec. 13.

Sabre is a light cutting and thrusting weapon in the sport of fencing where the entire body above the waist, except the weapon hand, is targeted; hits with the entire blade or point are valid while touches that land outside of the target area are not scored.
