TEHRAN, Nov. 15 (MNA) – Iranian male and female karate practitioners finished at the ninth edition of World Junior, Cadet & Under 21 Karate Championship in Indonesia pocketing 10 medals.

Attended by 1425 karate fighters from 91 countries, the ninth edition of World Junior, Cadet & Under 21 Karate Championship, kicked off on November 12, wrapped up today while the total number of medals received by Iranian athletes reached 10 with Mahdi Khodabakhsh’s bronze medal on the last day of the competitions.

In -84kg, Khodabakhsh was led to the losers’ group after conceding a defeat against the Egyptian representative where he overcame the Saudi karteka 2-1 to gain the bronze medal.

He had previously downed South African, Netherlander, Kazakhstani and Danish rivals to reach the semi-finals.

Iran's Kusha Teymouri, Zahra Barzegar, Behnoosh Najafi as well as males and females Kata teams were eliminated from the tournament in Sunday’s combats leaving Iran with a total of 10 medals.

Zohreh Barzegar clinched the gold medal and Fatemeh Sadeghi stood on the silver podium while Mi’ad Yari, Ali Asghar Asiabari, Mahdi Ghararizadeh, Amir Reza Mirzaei, Ali Meskini, Sara Bahmanyar, Seyed Ali Karimi and Mahdi Khodabakhsh settled for the bronze medal.

The ninth edition of World Junior, Cadet & Under 21 Karate Championship opened in Jakarta, Indonesia, on November 12 and wrapped up on November 15.
