TEHRAN, Nov. 14 (MNA) – Yousef Kargar, director of short film ‘Elegy’ has won the Special Director Award at the 19th edition of Faludi International Film Festival and Photo Competition held in Hungary.

Elegy, directed by Yousef Kargar and produced by the Orumieh office of Iranian Youth Cinema Society, narrates the story of an old man who has been waiting for the return of his missing son for 25 long years.

A statement issued by the festival’s jury panel praised Kargar’s Elegy as one of the most serious and emotional films in the competition section; “We as the juries loved the film as much as the audience. Unfortunately, European films do not often talk about real stories, problems, sorrows and pain, but Elegy's director has masterfully put all these topics into his film and compelled us to honor him with the Special Award for Best Director,” said the statement.

Faludi International Film Festival and Photo Competition took place on 6-7 November 2015 in Uránia National Film Theatre Budapest. The festival is a thematic one and the topic of this year's festival was ‘decision’.

Elegy has already won the Special Jury Award at the 7th Azerbaijan Family Film Festival and has received a nomination to the 2016 Academy Awards after winning the Jury Award for Best Foreign Short at the 3rd Summer Slam Film Festival (SSFF) 2015.
