CARACAS, Oct. 20 (MNA) –The Venezuelan authorities have stepped up security measures to prevent any violent incident or breach of the peace during the legislative elections process that will end next December 6.

Electric Energy Minister Luis Motta announced that this month the national power system suffered 13 sabotages, which he alleged were targeted to provoke dissatisfaction among citizens and destabilization of the country.

According to the official, the attacks occurred in the states of Zulia, Falcon, Bolivar, Táchira, Carabobo, Anzoátegui, Yaracuy, Lara and Aragua. Motta recalled that in previous elections there were similar attacks, which shows a pattern followed by those in charge, he pointed out. The current cases are in the hands of the Public Ministry so as to help experts identify the culprits, he noted.

The minister called for an improved level of cooperation with the authorities and reporting any irregular action in any of the electric stations or substations. Still in related story, the Minister of the Interior, Justice and Peace, Gustavo Gonzalez reported this Monday that the People’s Liberation and Protection Operation (PLO), which was established three months ago by the Venezuelan government, allowed the capture of 1,852 criminals so far.

Last Sunday, after congratulating the participants in a national mock election on December 6, Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro said that those who threatened elections and the country through violence would be jailed.
