TEHRAN, Oct. 15 (MNA) – Signing an MoU on Wednesday, Iran commissioned German Green Invest 3000 GmbH to set up a PV solar farm in South West Iran.

Iranian southwestern city of Ahvaz will home a photovoltaics solar farm after a memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed, on Wednesday, between officials of Khuzestan District Electricity Company and Green Invest 3000 GmbH–a subsidiary of German investment consortium Green Energy Group that builds wind turbines and photovoltaic parks.

The agreement came after months of bilateral talks as German Vice Chancellor Sigmar Gabriel headed the first European delegation of business leaders in July followed later in September by Nils Schmid, the deputy prime minister of the state of Baden-Württemberg.

The 10-megawatt solar power station is the first of electricity generating joint projects of Iran and Germany as the two sides have agreed to cooperate on areas of technology transfer, efficiency of power plants, water and electricity saving, construction of new power plants, and renewable energies.

Hoshang Falahatian, Iran’s Deputy Energy Minister, told the reporters that new agreements for building new power plants are imminent.

The Managing Director of Khuzestan District Electricity Company Mahmoud Janghorban also highlighted the excellent potential for investment in solar power in Ahvaz as the city enjoys excessive sunlight in all seasons.

In the signing ceremony, Andreas Renker, the Managing Director of German company, voiced hope that the electrical MoU will open new chapters of Tehran-Berlin cooperation.

A European powerhouse in electricity production from renewable sources, Germany garners 90,000 MW electric output from renewables while Iran's combined power generation capacity from hydroelectric, wind, solar and fossil fuel plants is close to 74,000 MW.
