TEHRAN, Oct. 14 (MNA) – The two powerhouses of Asian soccer lined up at Azadi Stadium in Tehran on Tuesday and ended with a 1-1 draw.

Iran men’s national football team lined up against their Japanese rivals in a friendly match at Azadi Stadium in Tehran on Tuesday.

Both teams are preparing for the second round of 2018 Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) World Cup qualifiers.

Though they staged a performance not as good as always, Iranians headed the event after a penalty kick for Iran in which Ashkan Dejagah’s spot-kick was cleared but Torabi scored in the rebound in the injury time of the first half.

The Blue Samurais did not suffer the defeat two long and 3 minutes into second half Yoshinori Muto headed an equalizer after the mistake made by Iran’s keeper Haghighi.

The final whistle of the event was blown while neither Iranians nor the Japanese managed to score their second goal of the event to let the spoils be shared without a victory.

While the Persian Cheetahs are planned to encounter Turkmenistan in their next official fixture, the Japanese continue their World Cup qualifying campaign with their next match away to Singapore on November 12.
