Iran’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Mohammad Javad Zarif and the Marshal of the Senate of the Republic of Poland Bogdan Borusewicz met on Sunday and exchanged views on the latest developments in bilateral relations as well as regional issues.
Zarif maintained that, “Iran and Poland enjoy long-standing relations by establishing strong ties over several decades.”
Pointing to the two countries’ economic and parliamentary capacities Zarif stated that, “we possess a good potential for mutual cooperation in energy and industry areas and multilateral parliamentary relations have an important position in the development of cooperation between Tehran and Warsaw.”
He also referred to political and economic ties between the two countries adding that, “we are prepared to conduct dialogue between deputies and officials on a regular basis and ways of extending economic relations between the two sides should be put on the agenda.”
Recalling the regional developments in Syria, Yemen and Iraq, Iran’s Foreign Minister asserted that, “the most important component is people’s right to determine their own destiny without external interference; we are seeking political solution to current crises.”
Iran’s Zarif deemed the existence and expansion of terrorist threat and extremism in the region as crucial and called for exchange of ideas between Iran and Poland in order to eliminate the crisis.
The Polish Senate Marshal Bogdan Borusewicz, for his part, said that, “we have had good relations with Iran and recently celebrated the anniversary of ties between the two countries.”
“Iran has a key role in regional developments and can bring stability to the region; therefore, we can collaborate to exert more influence on international as well as regional security,” he added.
Borusewicz further noted that, “we attach great importance to the development of bilateral ties and relations in the Polish Parliament and the two countries Parliamentary Friendship Groups have taken effective measures in this regard.”
“The trade balance between Iran and Poland in not desirable at the moment,” said the Polish official, concluding that, “Poland is determined to take serious steps towards finding new economic capacities.”
