TEHRAN, Sep. 06 (MNA) – Receiving the letters of credentials from the newly-appointed ambassadors of Brunei and Benin today, President Rouhani expressed hope for accelerating relations with African countries.

Congratulating on the establishment of Benin embassy in Tehran, President Rouhani said in meeting with the new Beninese ambassador to Iran that, “expanding relations with African countries is of high importance to Tehran and good relations have existed between Iran and Benin.”

Rouhani pointed to the fact that great potentials exist in both countries which need to be exploited in line with the development of bilateral relations and mutual interest expressing hope for an even more expansion of relations after the removal of sanctions.

After presenting his credentials to the Iranian President, the new ambassador of the Republic of Benin to Iran also asserted that, “the opening of Benin Embassy in Tehran is indicates a growing trend in good relations between the two countries and I hope to further enhance the level of these relations during the course of my responsibility.”

Expressing gratitude for Iran’s participation in the development of Benin and the implementation of infrastructure projects in the country, the new ambassador of the Republic of Benin announced the desire of Beninese President to visit Iran; which was warmly welcomed by Rouhani who asserted that this trip would sign the beginning of a new chapter in the relations between the two countries especially after the inauguration of the first Benin Embassy in Tehran.

Hasan Rouhani also received the credentials of Brunei’s new Ambassador to Tehran Abdul Samad Metasan.

He pointed to many potential areas of cooperation between the two countries and hoped for boosting and deepening of relations.

The President further expressed hope for a new round of mutual cooperation in economic, scientific, cultural, tourism and health areas.

He also welcomed a suggested visit by the Brunei Sultan to Iran and said the trip could further consolidate relations between the two nations.

Expressing the interest of Brunei Sultan in visiting Iran to explore ways of promoting bilateral relations, the Brunei Ambassador also hailed the signing of a nuclear agreement between Iran and the 5+1 and said it will positively affect world security.

Iran's Rouhani also received the new envoy of Sri Lanka to Tehran this morning.
