TEHRAN, Sep. 01 (MNA) – Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani underlined that nuclear victory showed that the weapon of force and bullying is no longer effective.

Concerning the nuclear issue, the Iranian nation stood up against the pressures and sanctions, showing that the weapon of force and bullying are ineffective, Larijani said addressing the Fourth World Conference of Parliament Speakers at the UN headquarters in New York on Monday.

Certainly, sustainable development can be achieved by means of three elements of political development, democracy and balanced economic growth, he said.

He reiterated that the ruling logic of politics is 'force' in practice, despite all the theoretical discussions, and will lead to the violence, war and displacement in the world.

"In today’s world, some powers still believe that they can attain their political goals by resorting to force, pressure, and sanctions."

Larijani raised a question which needs to be discussed at the session: "Is democracy really at the service of peace and sustainable development in today’s world?"

Some governments, Larijani said, purportedly seek democracy for their own peoples, however, they support dictatorship and despotic regimes in some countries and try to establish democracy in others via bombs and machineguns.

“The same approaches are the causes of most warmongering in today’s world. The painful fate of the downtrodden Palestinian people, the belligerency of the Zionist regime, war and occupation in Iraq and Afghanistan, the war in Yemen, and the five-year-long war in Syria can be cited here as examples,” Larijani said.

The Fourth World Conference of Parliament Speakers is convened by the Geneva-based Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in cooperation with the United Nations.
