Reza Najafi was reacting to recent news stories about a possible visit to US Senate Foreign Policy Committee by Yukia Amano of the IAEA with an invitation he had not accepted before; “the General Director has the right to reject or accept any invitation by any third country; the visit would, in its most probability, be done by Mr. Amano to support the JCPOA in the Senate and would promote the chances that Congress approves the deal,” said Mr. Najafi.
“Amano and the IAEA know better than others that this unnecessary crisis should be ended; Iran has reiterated that its nuclear program is peaceful and cooperation with the IAEA, inspections, and transparency would be a real solution,” he added. “Mr. Amano will address the Senate by the official invitation of some of US senators; he would accept invitation by any other country as well; however, the provisions of a deal to which the IAEA and a second country are parties are confidential and should not be divulged to any third country, and as Mr. Kerry discussed it in the Congress, even the US government had not been informed about the deal between IAEA and Iran,” Najafi emphasized.
“The Agency would know the nature of confidential documents and Iran have clearly briefed the IAEA on this; we have agreed on implementation of a roadmap which is not a part of the JCPOA, with the implementation already on process even before the Congress could examine and approve the deal,” told Mr. Najafi to the press. “Article 2 of the roadmap mandates the sides to provide our positon on the issues agreed upon by August 15 so that the next stage comes forth.”
Yukia Amano of IAEA will address the US Senate Foreign Policy Committee in upcoming Wednesday.
