ST. PETERSBURG, Jul. 06 (MNA) – Navy Commander Sayyari said on Monday the five littoral states have prepared a draft agreement on maintaining security in the Caspian Sea.

Navy Commander Habibollah Sayyari made the remarks at a meeting on Monday in the Russian city of St. Petersburg with participation of navy commanders of Caspian Sea littoral states.

Addressing the meeting that was proposed by Iran, Sayyari announced the country’s stance in regard to ensuring the Caspian Sea security. 

Sayyari noted that under the draft agreement, maintaining security in the Caspian Sea will be the sole responsibility of the five littoral states (Iran, Russia, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan) and without the interference of foreign forces.

The meeting was attended by commanders of Iranian navy, Russian Federation, the Republic of Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan.

All sides expressed readiness for closer multilateral military-security cooperation in the Caspian Sea.

Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy Viktor V. Chirkov said in the meeting that Moscow's security ties with Iran are becoming increasingly stronger.  

The meeting was held at the suggestion of Iran on the sidelines of the international maritime defense exhibition in St. Petersburg which ended on July 5.
