Jaberi Ansari, Bogdanov confer on Astana Syrian talks

TEHRAN, Jan. 13 (MNA) – Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Hossein Jaberi Ansari and his Russian counterpart kicked off talks over the recent regional developments, in Moscow on Friday.

Having arrived early on Friday in Moscow, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab-African Affairs Hossein Jaberi Ansari met with Mikhail Bogdanov, the Russian deputy FM and President Putin's top envoy for the Middle East.

The recent development in the Middle East with special focus on Syrian crisis, war on terrorism, and the plans for the Astana talks and Syrian ceasefire are the major areas of bilateral discussions between Jaberi Ansari and Bogdanov.

The talks are in line with Tehran-Moscow coordination for scheduled dialogue of the officials of the two countries, at different levels, over the political solution of the Syrian crisis.

The importance of current ongoing talks between Jaberi Ansari and Bogdanov is rooted in the point that the trilateral meeting of the foreign ministers of the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Russian Federation and the Republic of Turkey in Moscow on December 20, 2015, led to a joint statement of agreements for political resolution of Syrian crisis which led to the widespread ceasefire in Syria since January 01, 2017.

The hectic negotiations in Moscow were ended by a statement covering agreement over joint fight against ISIL and Al-Nusra, call for all members of the international community to cooperate in good faith in countering terrorism, implementation of UNSC resolution 2254, full respect for sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity of the Syrian Arab Republic, rejection of any military solution to the Syrian conflict, expansion of ceasefire, unhindered delivery of humanitarian assistance, free movement of civilians throughout the country and resumption of the political process in Syria in accordance with the UNSC resolution 2254.

The two diplomats had already met each other both in Tehran and Moscow and discussed the policies of their respected countries over the issues of war on terror, political solution of Syrian crisis, the developments in Iraq, Libya, and Yemen.
