Iran, Iraq to boost defense coop.

BAGHDAD, May 20 (MNA) – In the 2nd round of talks between Iran and Iraq’s defense ministers, the two sides agreed upon boosting defense cooperation and intensifying efforts to fight terrorism.

Iranian Minister of Defense Brigadier General Hossein Dehghan held a second round of talks with Iraqi counterpart Maj. Gen. Khalid Yassin al-Obeidi on Wednesday in Baghdad.

During the talks, the two sides reviewed the latest situation of Iraq’s conflicts with terrorists, expanding defense and security cooperation, and intensifying efforts to eliminate the Takfiri terrorists, as well as strategies to implement the agreements as soon as possible.

Following this, Brig. Gen. Dehghan met with the chairman and members of Iraqi Parliament's National Security and Defense Committee and discussed various ways to boost bilateral cooperation.

Dehghan also held a meeting with Ammar al-Hakim, the Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq (ISCI).

Arrived in Baghdad on Tuesday, Brig. Gen. Dehghan initiated the first round of talks with Maj. Gen. al-Obeidi in a bid to take steps in the process of fully destroying of Takfirist-Terrorist-Zionist networks of horror as the most contributing factor to insecurity and instability of the region.

Defense Minister Dehghan’s visit to Iraq comes a few days after Iraqi President Fouad Massoum paid an official visit to Tehran and amid Iraqi media attention.

Last year, Brig. Gen. Dehghan and his visiting Iraqi counterpart Khalid al-Obeidi signed an MoU in Tehran to broaden defense cooperation between the two Muslim neighboring states.
