TEHRAN, Apr. 26 (MNA) – Head of Bee Raising and Crossbreeding Office of Agriculture Ministry has said Iran exported more than 5000 tons honey in the last Iranian year.

Head of Bee Raising and Crossbreeding Office of the Agriculture Ministry Mashallah Jamshidi, while announcing Turkey as Iran’s major honey consumer, said the country had exported above 5000 tons honey in the last Iranian year (ended March 20, 2014).

“Turkey, as the biggest customer for Iranian honey, has imported 3400 tons honey from Iran in the last Iranian year,” Jamshidi told Mehr News.

Deputy Agriculture Minister for Livestock Production Hassan Rokni pointed to the surveys done on the field of honey production in 10 Iranian provinces and said, “Despite reduction in rainfall, honey production increased by 5 to 10 percent in the country during the last year.”

In addition to Turkey, Rokni said, Malaysia, India and Afghanistan are among main targets of Iranian honey exports, adding that Persian Gulf littoral states also have expressed willingness to import Iranian honey products.
