Iran summons Australian diplomat over illegal sanctions

TEHRAN, May 15 (MNA) – The Iranian foreign ministry summoned the charge d'affaires of the Australian Embassy to convey Tehran's protest over the recent sanctions announced by Canberra on some Iranian officials.

On Wednesday, the head of of the Department of Asia and the Pacific at the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the charge d'affaires of the Australian Embassy in Tehran on Wednesday to lodge  Tehran's strong protest against Australia's irresponsible action in imposing and exercising the illegal and unjustified sanctions yesterday.

The Iranian foreign ministry official stressed to the Australian diplomat in the meeting that the Islamic Republic of Iran reserves the right to retaliate the action.

The chargé d'affaires of the Australian embassy announced in the meeting that he will convey the protest of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Canberra as soon as possible.

 In an illegal and interventionist anti-Iran action, the Australian government imposed targeted sanctions on five Iranian individuals and three entities, accusing Iran of alleged destabilizing actions in the West Asian region on Tuesday.
