Tehran, Sept. 20 (MNA) – The Islamic Republic of Iran will participate in a world gathering held by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) on Sept. 26-Oct. 1 in London, according to a report released by Moj News Agency yesterday.

The representatives of the Ports and Shipping Organization (PSO) and a number of Iranian maritime experts will attend the gathering.

 

IMO was established in 1948 to provide machinery for cooperation among Governments in the field of governmental regulation and practices related to technical matters of all kinds affecting shipping engaged in international trade; to encourage and facilitate the general adoption of the highest practicable standards in matters concerning maritime safety, efficiency of navigation and prevention and control of marine pollution from ships. The organization is also empowered to deal with administrative and legal matters related to these purposes.
