TEHRAN, July 20 (Mehr News Agency) – The contract for buying 12 airbuses has been suspended under U.S. sanctions and political pressures but not cancelled, said the Managing Director of Iran Air Davood Keshavarzian here Saturday.

“Not only the amount paid to the French side is not blocked, it also accrues the usual interest. The very fact that the French does not show any interest in refunding the sum, indicates their unwillingness to cancel it,” he said.

Referring to Iran 140 planes, Keshavarzian added, “This plane has a 50 seat capacity which is used on short hauls. has not employed them on its fleet yet. Only Aseman which is independent of Iran Air makes use of them. We may also be considering these planes for Iran Airtours [Iran Air subsidiary] to cover short distances, should there be no alternative.”
