TEHRAN, Sept. 6 (MNA) –- Foreign Minister Kamal Kharrazi on Monday called for the prompt release of kidnapped Iranian diplomat in Iraq Fereydun Jahani.

In a phone talk with his Iraqi counterpart Hoshyar Zebari, Kharrazi called on Iraqi officials to make double efforts in order to clarify the diplomat’s fate.

 

The Iranian foreign minister stressed that the friendly relations between Iran and Iraq implies that the issue should be resolved as soon as possible.

 

During their conversation Kharrazi and Zebari also discussed the latest developments in Iraq.

 

Kharrazi pointed to the effective role of Grand Ayatollah Ali Sistani and other Iraqi clerics in resolving the Najaf crisis. 

 

Zebari stressed that Iraqi foreign and interior ministries as well as security officials are following up the issue of the kidnapped diplomat and will make strenuous efforts to obtain his release.
