TEHRAN August 10 (MNA) -- In the first four months of the current Iranian calendar year of 1383 (March 21, 2004-March 20, 2005), exports of pistachio registered decrease in terms of weight and increase in terms of value compared to the figures for the corresponding period last year.

Fars News Agency quoting head of Exports Bureau with the Iranian Customs Office Nasser Ebrahimi said here on Tuesday that price of pistachio in the global markets vary from $4,000 to $4,600 per ton due to the sorts and the value of the products.

 

Exports of 41,300 tons of pistachio in the first four months brought in $178.8 million demonstrating an 11.6 percent turn down and a 5.9 percent increase in terms of weight and value respectively in comparison with the figures for the corresponding period the previous year.

 

Two months ago, sources said that EU is trying to impose sanctions on Iranian pistachio imports due to aflatoxin contamination. However, European Union and Iranian officials brushed aside the media speculations on the possible European ban on Iranian pistachio.

 

Meanwhile, the official said that exports of raisins in the first four months of the current year recorded an 18.8 percent and a 58.9 percent hike in terms of weight and value respectively compared to the exported amount for the same period the previous year.

 

In the aforesaid period, Iran exported $25,148,773 worth of raisins weighing 30,917 tons.
