TEHRAN, Jun. 18 (MNA) – Leaders of Persian Gulf Arab countries have issued separate messages congratulating Hassan Rohani on his election as Iran’s next president in Friday’s poll.

In his message, Sultan Qaboos of Oman expressed his sincere congratulations along with his best wishes of success to the new president to lead the Iranian people towards further progress and prosperity, Oman News Agency reported on Sunday.  

He affirmed to enhance the existing relations and cooperation to serve the interests of the Omani and Iranian people.

Also, Saudi King Abdullah congratulated Rohani on his election as the new president of Iran on Sunday, while welcoming the new leader’s gesture to improve bilateral ties, Arab News reported. 

“We are glad to congratulate you in the name of the people and government of Saudi Arabia… wishing greater progress and prosperity for the people of the brotherly Islamic Republic of Iran,” he wrote in his message. 

According to the report, the leaders of the four other Persian Gulf Cooperation Council countries, namely the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Kuwait, and Qatar, had also congratulated the new Iranian president.

“We look forward to working together for the good of this region and the Emirati and Iranian peoples,” UAE President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al-Nahyan wrote in a telegram to Rohani. 

“We are keen to forge relations based on cooperation with the Islamic Republic of Iran,” he added. 

In addition, the 56-member Organization of Islamic Cooperation congratulated the new Iranian president and wished him every success in administering the country’s affairs.

“Iran is one of OIC’s founding members and an active member of the organization,” said Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, the OIC secretary general.
