“Western politicians are seeking their own political purposes through abusing fundamental human rights principles,” Larijani stated in an interview with IRNA in New York on Monday.
Heading a high-ranking delegation, Larijani left Tehran for New York on Sunday to take part in the 65th session of the United Nations General Assembly which opened on October 26 and runs to November 20.
The delegation will defend Iran’s stance against the draft resolution on human rights violations in Iran.
In a politically-motivated move, Western countries are making attempts to approve a draft resolution on human rights violations in Iran at the Third Committee of the United Nations General Assembly.
The draft resolution that they have drawn up is replete with allegations against Iran which would put into question the reputation of the UN, Larijani observed.
So far, many claims have been made against Tehran at the UN Human Rights Council, but Iran has cleared up the council’s ambiguities, Larijani explained.
He added that the propaganda campaign launched by the Western media is intended to distort Iran’s image since the Islamic Republic has made achievements in improving its human rights situation.
Larijani, a U.S.-educated mathematician, also said that the Western countries no longer can claim support for human rights since they have abused human rights on several occasions.
