Now that the country is improving its medical services and the scientific levels of students of medicine and other related fields of study, dissolution of University of Medical Sciences was not an “appropriate” measure, the notification read.
On Saturday, Dastjerdi announced that all parts of Medical Sciences University are to be merged with Tehran University of Medical Sciences and Shahid Beheshti University.
The Majlis Health Commission has also asked the health minister to attend the commission meeting on Tuesday to explain the reasons behind such a decision.
Ex-health ministers protest dissolution of university
Moreover, a number of former health ministers have expressed their viewpoints over the decision in separate interviews with the Mehr News Agency.
Dr. Reza Malekzadeh believes the decision has been made by Administrative Supreme Council and not the health ministry.
“Dissolution of an administrative organization falls within the authority of Administrative Supreme Council,” Malekzadeh stated.
He also called the decision a “hasty” one.
‘MPs astonished’
In addition, Dr. Alireza Marandi says that dissolution of the university was an “unexpected” and “surprising” measure and the lawmakers were astonished at the decision.
Kamran Baqeri-Lankarani has also stated that the dissolution of the university contravene the philosophy of the formation of Health Ministry which is based on merging educational programs in medicine and related fields with health and treatment services.
‘Health ministry must explain’
Moreover, Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian says the Health Ministry must explain whether the dissolution was a legal decision or not.
