It is the first volume of “Contemporary World Poetry”, a large collection which has been released by the Japanese publisher Doyobijutsu.
“Contemporary Iranian Poetry” contains 50 selections from the contemporary Iranian poets Nima Yushij, Ahmad Shamlu, Mehdi Akhavan Salis, Sohrab Sepehri, Forugh Farrokhzad, Simin Behbahani, Hushang Ebtehaj and several other literati.
The collection has been translated from the original Persian sources, Iranian Japanese language expert Qodratollah Zakeri told the Persian service of the ISNA on Wednesday.
Shuri Suzuki, Kimie Maeda, Nahu Nakamura from Japan and Iranian scholar Farzin Fard are the translators of the collection.
“The translators have said that their efforts are aimed at providing an opportunity for the Japanese to be familiar with the Iranian spirit by presenting a true image of Iran,” Zakeri said.
He also said that most Japanese translations from Iran have focused on classical Persian literature.
“For example, there are about 20 Japanese translations of the Rubaiyat of Khayyam and the version translated by Ogawa Ryosaku has been republished 64 times,” he added.
