MANILA, Oct. 5 (MNA) -- Iran’s volleyball team claimed its first silver medal in the Asian Senior Men’s Volleyball Championship.

In the final match played at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium in Manila on Monday, Iran was beaten 3-1 (25-19, 18-25, 23-25, 22-25) by six-time champion Japan and came second.

Iran had won the bronze medal in 2003 in the competitions held in China.

“There is no excuse and the Japanese team played very well against us. We had a good start in the final but it was too hard to continue. I am so happy because of Iran’s performance in the tournament,” Iran’s coach Hossein Madani said in the post-match news conference.

Korea defeated China in four sets (25-23, 25-22, 22-25, 25-22) at the Bronze medal match of the 15th Asian Senior Men’s Volleyball Championship at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.

The 15th Asian Senior Men's Volleyball Championship was held in Manila, the Philippines, with the participation of 18 teams in four pools.
