TEHRAN, Mar. 8 (MNA) -- The city police discovered an illegal fireworks factory in east Tehran on Sunday.

Col. Jafari, an official of the information and security police, told the Mehr News Agency that the factory produced a massive amount of fireworks and 3000 types of dangerous fireworks had been found at the site so far.

He said the products bore fake logos and were ready for market distribution.

The factory sold its products through three major wholesalers that worked in the market, he added.

Near the end of every Iranian year, many people, especially the youth, are badly burned by fireworks.

Iranian New Year occurs on the first day of spring, which is March 21 this year.

The night before the last Wednesday of the year is celebrated by Iranians as Chaharshanbeh-Suri, which means fireworks Wednesday, the Iranian festival of fire.
