TEHRAN, Jan. 30 (MNA) — If the required funds are provided, Tehran-Shomal Freeway project will be completed by early 2012, the project developer said.

All the stages of the project are being carried out precisely and accordingly, noted Mohammad Reza Montazeri adding, “We are exercising an effective supervision over the project, however.”

With the beginning of the drilling operation on the Talun Tunnel located in the “Region One” of the project by the end of the current week, development of Tehran-Shomal Freeway project will go ahead, ILNA news agency quoted Montazeri as saying on Tuesday.

Being 20 percent complete already, the project is expected to be finished in five years. Chinese contractors have undertaken to develop significant parts of the work. “A number of Chinese experts tasked with the project building have been stationed in Iran since 50 days ago,” he commented.

Financial problems is said to have been the reason for the postponement of the completion of the much awaited project, ILNA news agency quoted Montazeri as saying on Tuesday.

Completion of the nation’s mega project, sometimes referred to as the national project, has faced long delays, however, when completed the current distance from the capital Tehran to the regions located on the shores of Caspian Sea would be significantly shortened.
