TEHRAN, Jun. 01 (MNA) – Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Nasser Kan'ani has reacted to the fresh hostile move by the European Union over sanctioning several Iranian officials and bodies.

The European Union, which has acted passively and ineffectively in the face of the humanitarian disaster in Gaza and Palestine for the past months, has been criticized by public opinion in Europe and in other parts of the world, the senior Iranian diplomat stressed.

Slamming the new anti-Iran sanctions imposed by the European Union, Kan'ani criticized the EU for sanctioning several Iranian authorities and institutions who have been effective in dealing with terrorism and ensuring stable security in the region.

It is regrettable that the European Union, by resorting to absurd and baseless accusations, once again resorted to the ineffective tool of sanctions against Iran, preferring the satisfaction of the Zionist regime and the United States over the interests of the European Union and nations, he emphasized.

Emphasizing the continuation of the principled policies of the Islamic Republic of Iran, especially in ensuring regional and international peace and security, and strongly criticizing the double behavior of the European Union, Kan'ani stated, "The Islamic Republic of Iran reserves its right to respond to this destructive approach of the European Union."

The European Union has imposed new sanctions on a number of Iranian individuals and entities for their alleged role in the "transfer of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to Russia."

In its press release on Friday, the European External Action Service (EEAS) said it has adopted restrictive measures against six Iranian individuals and three entities claiming that their role in transferring drones or missiles to armed groups and entities undermines peace and security in the West Asia and the Red Sea region.

Furthermore, the bloc decided to list Iran's Defense Minister Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Ashtiani and Afshin Khajeh Fard, head of Iran's Aviation Industries Organization (IAIO)

Those targeted will be subject to an asset freeze and travel ban to the European Union. Additionally, the provision of funds or economic resources, directly or indirectly, to or for the benefit of natural or legal persons, entities, or bodies listed is prohibited.
