TEHRAN, Jan. 08 (MNA) – A top Hezbollah commander was assassinated in an Israeli air strike on southern Lebanon, media sources reported on Monday.

“This is a very painful strike,” one security source told Reuters news agency, Aljazeera reports.

The unidentified commander played “a leading role in managing Hezbollah’s operations in the south,” a security official told AFP news agency.

He was “killed in an Israeli raid targeting his car in the south”.

This assassination further raised fears of the conflict in Gaza spilling over to Lebanon and elsewhere.

Issuing a statement, the Lebanese Hezbollah movement confirmed the martyrdom of one of its commanders in southern Lebanon.
