TEHRAN, Jan. 02 (MNA) – The export of products from Iran’s northern port of Bandar Anzali registered a 55 percent hike in first 9 months of Iranian calender, the director general of Ports and Maritime Department General of Gilan province announced.

Hossein Younesi pointed to the effective measures taken in ports of the province in the current administration and added that a parcel of land as large as 20 ha has been earmarked for the construction operation of a wharf, hotel, restaurant, onshore and offshore structures in line with realizing the general objectives of sea-based economy as emphasized by the Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.

Turning to the products imported via Bandar Anzali, he stated that 1.2 million tons of goods like corn, raw edible oil, wood and ironware were imported via the port from March 21 to December 22, 2023, showing a 55 percent growth compared to the same period last year.

In this period, 542 commercial vessels entered Bandar Anzali Port Complex, registering a 43 percent hike compared to last year’s corresponding period, he added.

Younesi pointed to the 32 percent growth in loading and unloading operations at Bandar Anzali and noted that more than 1.478 tons of various types of commodities were loaded and unloaded at the port.

Regarding the vision defined for Bandar Anzali in the International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC), the director general said an expert-level meeting was held with the Russian side to settle the existing barriers for the optimal use of high capacities of the port in the corridor.

He termed the measures taken for the development of trade activities in Bandar Anzali in the administration of President Ebrahim Raeisi “significant and eye-catching”. He noted that more effective steps will be taken for the development of ports in this northern province.

The export of non-oil commodities from Bandar Anzali showed a 55 percent growth in the nine months of the current Iranian calendar year (January to December 2023), he concluded.
