TEHRAN, Nov. 09 (MNA) – Iranian President Ebrahim Raeisi and his Uzbek counterpart Shavkat Mirziyoyev, in a meeting in Tashkent, stressed the need for developing bilateral relations between the two countries.

Iranian President arrived in the Uzbek capital of Tashkent on Thursday morning to attend the 16th summit of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO).

Upon arriving in Tashkent, Raeisi was welcomed by Uzbekistan's prime minister and other officials of the country.

Later on Thursday, Raeisi held a meeting with his Uzbek counterpart Shavkat Mirziyoyev. 

During the meeting, Raeisi said that the development of political and economic interactions with neighboring Islamic countries is one of the main priorities in Iran's foreign policy.

Mirziyoyev, for his part, emphasized the need to strengthen relations and cooperation between the two countries.

The Iranian president is scheduled to hold meetings with his counterparts attending the ECO summit during his one-day stay in Tashkent.

As President Raeisi explained before departing from Tehran to Dushanbe on Wednesday morning, the summit will discuss the Gaza issue. 

"The heads of state will discuss the Gaza issue," said Raeisi at Mehrabad airport on Wednesday. 

Led by the Iranian president, the Iranian delegation met their Tajik counterparts on Wednesday evening and signed 18 documents of cooperation mainly in the fields of economy, trade, education, and culture.
