TEHRAN, Sep. 30 (MNA) – Iran Army Navy commander said that many countries are seeking to buy Iranian-made Dena-class destroyers, adding that Antarctica provides the best location to control ballistic missiles.

Rear Admiral Shahram Irani, Commander of the Iranian Army Navy made the comments in a ceremony held at Tehran-based Sharif University of Technology (SUT) to commemorate the Sacred Defense Week on Saturday.

"Today, we have achieved 100% accurate meteorological software, which we used operationally during the mission of the 86th Fleet" that sailed around the globe, the commander said.

He pointed to his recent remarks on the Iranian Navy's plan to set up a permanent base in the South Pole or Antarctica, "The location of the South Pole is important for several reasons. Militarily, this area is the best location for controlling ballistic missiles and the enemy uses this area."

Admiral Irani stressed that the Iranian navy should first send a research team to Antarctica to survey the conditions there. "Moreover, in order to build a base, certain things that are necessary for construction must be taken into account, and the most important thing is that we must have constant contact with this base."

"We are trying to send a group to that region for environmental studies. Today, there is this self-belief, and in our opinion, this capability exists in the country," the commander also said.

He added that the Iranian navy has to build icebreakers to be able to sail on the ice.

Admiral Irain further said that "Today, many countries are asking us for help in the field of training and building ships, including in this field, they have many requests to have our Dana-class destroyers."

"The Daylaman destroyer is built and ready to join the navy," he concluded.
