TEHRAN, Sep. 13 (MNA) – The IRGC's Hamzeh Seyed Al-Shohada base in Urmia, West Azerbaijan, announced in a statement that they have seized a big shipment of weapons and ammunition in the northwestern borders.

According to IRGC's Hamzeh Seyed Al-Shohada base's statement, the consignment contained different-sized weapons like pistols and rifels along with their ammunition and also machetes that were planned to be used to undermine the country's security on the anniversary of last year's foreign instigated riots. 

The statement that was released on Wednesday said the shipment was identified and confiscated at the shared border before it got into the country.

"This shipment contained more than 18,000 batons, nearly 53,000 types of electroshock weapons, and more than 54,000 different types of machetes and knives, which are considered very dangerous equipment and weapons that can be used in riots," Brigadier General Pourjamshidian, the commander of Hamzeh Seyed Al-Shohada base said.

He said that the consignment was seized through the cooperation and coordination of different Iranian security forces including IRGC, Law Enforcement and intelligence forces.

The commander further said that the shipment was the biggest of its kind discovered in the past year since last year's riots.
