Intl. cooperatives trade fair to be held in Tehran late Oct.

 

TEHRAN – An international cooperatives trade fair will be held in the Tehran Permanent International Fairgrounds by late October this year.

 

The four-day event, which is to kick off on October 26, will host 300 Iranian cooperatives as well as companies from 50 foreign countries. These companies will put on display their products and also their achievements in a variety of sectors, including agriculture, handicraft, IT, mining, and transportation. The fair is being organized by the Iran Chamber of Cooperatives, the Cooperatives Ministry, and the Asia-Pacific International Cooperative Alliance. 

 

Iranian company to help Afghanistan with telecom development

 

TEHRAN – Two companies from Iran and India have signed a contract with the Afghan Ministry of Communications to rebuild Afghanistan’s telecommunications system as part of the aid from the neighbors to reconstruct the war-torn state.

 

The 40-million-dollar contract urges the two companies to provide 150,000 subscribers in the cities of Kabul, Kandahar, Mazar-e Sharif, and Kunduz with access to the telecommunications services within an 18-month period. Last month, the Islamic Republic of Iran’s ambassador to Kabul attended a ceremony held by Afghanistan’s Ministry of Communications to announce the establishment of the country’s Institute of Communications and Information Technology.

 

Iran, Tajikistan explore avenues for cooperation in construction sector

 

TEHRAN – On Wednesday, a group of Iranian architects, civil engineers, and investors met with Tajik construction officials in the central Asian state’s capital Dushanbe to discuss possible avenues for cooperation between the two countries in construction projects.

 

Chairman of the Committee of Construction and Architecture of Tajikistan Matlub Khalifayev said during the meeting that Iran and Tajikistan share a lot in their classical architecture, pointing to the wide range of cultural commonalities between the two countries as a great advantage that facilitates their relations. “We have issued operation licenses for more than 60 foreign construction companies to implement projects across Tajikistan,” he said, adding the Tajik government would also like to have Iranian firms active in its construction projects. 

 

Tehran to host intl. seminar on irrigation, drainage

 

TEHRAN - The 4th Asian Regional Conference & 10th International Seminar on Participatory Irrigation Management (PIM) will be held in Tehran from May 2-5, 2007.

 

This was decided by the latest meeting of the Intl. Committee on Irrigation & Drainage (ICID), which kicked off on Tuesday in the Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur. The Iranian National Committee on Irrigation and Drainage (IRNCID) will organize the event with support from the World Bank and IWMI (International Water Management Institute). Iran was granted the ICID membership in 1967.

 

Iran, Indonesia sign MOU on industrial cooperation

 

TEHRAN – At first, Indonesia seemed not so willing to sign its newest industrial cooperation agreement with Iran on Tuesday but the Southeast Asian country’s deputy industries minister finally sealed the accord in a closed-door meeting with the deputy head of Iran Small Industries & Industrial Parks Organization (ISIPO).

 

“Indonesia has long been following the policy of expanding the business venture space for its small enterprises and industries, and that has made them quite successful in improving the employment. That’s the way we should follow, too,” Ahmad Kaviani, the ISIPO official who signed the contract, said after the meeting. Iran and Indonesia, he added, are also to exchange experience in textile, petrochemical, and agricultural sectors.
