“If Europe is seeking diplomatic and peaceful solutions to Iran’s nuclear issue, it should not demand anything from Iran beyond its international obligations,” Asefi said in a statement.
The remarks were made in response to EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana, who said on Monday that the EU could share the most sophisticated civilian nuclear technology with Iran if it stopped enriching uranium on its soil.
“It looks like, after three years of negotiations and Iran's transparent position on its use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes, Mr. Solana still has doubts about Iran's rights under the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. This is really surprising,” he said.
"Iran had informed the European side at the beginning of the negotiations that the aim is to produce fuel for peaceful purposes, and Iran is not seeking anything beyond its rights and will not accept commitments beyond that."
Article 4 of the NPT clearly states that countries are allowed to conduct nuclear research and develop and use nuclear energy and no international treaty denies Iran this right, he added.
"Iran’s decision to restore its right is definitive and irreversible," he stressed.
