TEHRAN, May 1 (MNA) -- The nation’s first cable-stayed bridge became operational in Khuzestan Province on Monday.

Minister of Roads and Transportation Mohammad Rahmati along with a number of provincial officials attended the opening ceremony of Iran’s first cable-stayed bridge built in Shushtar, a historic city located in the southern province of Khuzestan.

Some Rls.44 billion as well as $1.5 million has been invested in the construction of the 674-meter long bridge.

Construction of the bridge will significantly reduce the traffic jam in the inter city roads.

The cable-stayed bridge is of multiple-pillar type, with cables supporting the roadbed. The cables are connected to the pillars in a parallel attachment design. They are made nearly parallel by attaching cables to various points on the pillar so that the height of attachment of each on the pillar is similar to the distance from the pillar along the roadway to its lower attachment.
