TEHRAN (Mehr News Agency) -– The Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, on Wednesday lauded the government for the services it provides and said that the government should work to raise the standard of living.

In a meeting with the president and his cabinet on the occasion of Government Week, the Leader said that the people's support for the government has been the key to the achievements of the Islamic Republic and that officials are expected to encourage public participation.

The Leader honored the memory of former president Mohammad-Ali Rajaei and former prime minister Mohammad-Javad Bahonar, who lost their lives in a bomb blast in the presidential office in 1981.

The Leader called for Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB), the press, and cabinet ministers to inform the people about programs to improve the financial situation of the people.

The Leader said that people are satisfied with the government's program to control prices and called for continued efforts to check inflation.

Ayatollah Khamenei stated that reconstruction and developing infrastructure are the two major goals of the government.

More attention should also be paid to the standard of living and the medium-term and long-term outlook for economic development plans, the Leader added.

The Leader said that people seek justice and support the campaign against corruption, adding that all officials should focus their efforts on properly administering justice and implementing the campaign against corruption and discrimination.

"The legitimacy of officials comes from their resolve to fight discrimination and corruption. Therefore, any official overlooking this obligation loses legitimacy," the Leader said.

Ayatollah Khamenei stated that working for the prosperity of the people and economic growth are at the top of the agenda of the Islamic Republic. He added that in the absence of justice certain individuals will try to take advantage of the situation at the expense of the people.

"Islam calls for prosperity for everyone," he said.

The Leader said that the people's confidence in the government will increase if they see gains in the campaign against corruption, especially in the area of preventing individuals from acquiring special privileges.

The Leader expressed concern about political factionalism and called on political parties to avoid tension and help to create a logical and moderate political atmosphere.

Ayatollah Khamenei called for the creation of a calm and enthusiastic atmosphere for the upcoming parliamentary election and said, God willing, there will be a lively election with massive turnout.

The Leader said that two wrong ideas are popular nowadays: some people attribute a small or a big problem to the entire system and challenge the whole system and the Constitution; and some others attribute any small or big failure to the leadership and believe that only four or five people are responsible.

"The problem originated from the performance of government institutions. We should explore the root cause of a failure. We should look at our own performance with a critical eye to find the flaw and deal with it," the Leader said.

"The two rival political parties are accusing each other of weak administration. Would it have been possible to achieve such progress in various sectors without strong administration?"

"One party calls for a strict religious way of life and the other takes a critical view and says that the people may no longer support the Islamic Republic. The reality is that those opposing the system are very few in number and people from all walks of life support the system. They may have criticism, and we should hear them out and heed their criticism," the Leader said.

The Leader also advised government officials to make efforts to boost industrial output and said that the government is expected to give priority to domestically produced goods in order to support the country's industrial sector.
