TEHRAN, Dec. 2 (MNA) – Iran and Afghanistan are on the way to further expand their mutual economic relations particularly, in the transportation and investment sectors, Minister of Economic Affairs and Finance Danesh Jafari said in a meeting with Afghanistan’s Foreign Minister Abdullah Friday.

“Fortunately, of several agreements signed between both sides in last year’s First Joint Economic Commission Conference, some are followed up and are being implemented,” Jafari announced, adding that foreign investment attraction and avoiding double taxation constituted significant aspects of economic promotion between the two neighboring countries.

 

Furthermore, the North-South Corridor was of central theme in the meeting. The Afghan minister conveyed his country’s interest to join the ten member states in the corridor extension project as well as demanding an increase in the commodity transit as well as cooperation in the transportation sector.

 

Emphasizing the need for increasing Dugharoon Customs’ operation hours, the ministers discussed the change and reduction of tariffs at this border point office. He also focused on facilitating Iranian contractors’ presence in Afghanistan.
