Making the remarks in a Friday meeting with Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Seyed Abbas Araghchi in Madrid, he maintained that Iran shouldn’t doubt the determination of European countries to safeguard Iranian interest and solve problems caused by US pullout from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
Spain is fully aware of Iranian nation’s problems after US sanctions, he said, adding that EU is putting its all-out effort into minimizing the effect of sanctions.
For his part, Araghchi appreciated Spain’s constructive stance towards JCPOA, adding that the two countries enjoy hundreds of years of relations which have always been based on mutual respect.
He went on to say that the trading volume between Iran and Spain reached some €2 billion during the last year and more than 3,000 Spanish firms entered Iran’s market. However, US hostile measures have negatively affected these economic relations, he noted.
Iran believes that the parliaments of European countries can positively cooperate with European governments in removing the barriers for continuing bilateral economic cooperation with Iran.
Araghchi also met with Spain's Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs Fernando Martin Valenzuela earlier on Friday where the two officials discussed bilateral ties as well as regional and international developments.
