He made the remark in a meeting, held on Iran-Italy mechanism for political consultation, with Secretary-General of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Elisabetta Belloni late on Thu., Nov. 15, in Italy’s capital Rome and said, “the United States has turned its currency into a "weapon" and is using it to challenge the sovereignty of European nations.”
The two sides exchanged views in various issues including bilateral cooperation in political, economic and cultural fields, Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), regional issues in Mediterranean, Middle East and Persian Gulf, latest developments in Syria, Lebanon, Afghanistan, Yemen, situation of terrorism, extremism and separatism in the region, transit of drugs and crisis of refugees, etc.
Both sides also stressed the need for the continuation of constructive interaction to further boost ties based on mutual respect as Tehran and Rome’s principled policy.
In this meeting, Iran and Italy emphasized on taking effective steps for the removal of barriers facing bilateral trade and economic cooperation.
Italian side pointed to the serious determination of European governments for removing barriers ahead of bilateral relationship and minimizing the risk of sanctions being imposed on European and Italian companies which are cooperating with the Islamic Republic of Iran.
