TEHRAN, Nov. 06 (MNA) – Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan highlighted that Turkey is not going to abide by the US sanctions on Iran.

Speaking on Tuesday about the recently re-imposed set of US sanctions against Iran, he said, "we do not consider the sanctions right. This is a step aimed at upsetting the global balance. It is contrary to international law,” Sputnik reported.

“We do not want to live in an imperialistic world,” the president stressed.

At the same time, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said that no results could be achieved through these punitive measures. "Not only neighboring countries but many countries from many regions of the world are being impacted by these unilateral sanctions.”

He went on to say that dialogue and diplomacy would be more useful and meaningful and that it was unfair to punish the Iranian people, adding, "we do not believe any result can be reached with sanctions. I think meaningful dialogue and talks are more useful than sanctions.”

Following the unilateral withdrawal of the United States from Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) in May, Trump administration reimposed all sanctions that had been lifted under the agreement, mainly targeting Iran’s oil and banking sectors on November 5. The US pullout was censured by other sides to the JCPOA, as well as EU and a great number of other countries which deemed the agreement as a solid basis for facilitating Iran’s interactions with the world.
