TEHRAN, Aug. 04 (MNA) – A briefing session was held on preparations for the 3rd Tehran Security Conference slated for February 2019, in the presence of as many as forty ambassadors and the heads of diplomatic missions.

The first briefing session for the third edition of the Tehran Security Conference was held with focus on peace and stability in the West Asia and also JCPOA and Iran-Europe cooperation. More than forty foreign ambassadors and diplomatic representatives attended the session.

The conference will be held in Feb. 2019 under the theme of “Regional Security in the West Asia: Prospect of Stability, Cooperation and Collective Progress”.

“The issue of holding security conference, considering its importance in the past couple of years, has turned into an international relations concept with an impact on foreign policies in all countries,” said Jalal Dehghani Firouzabadi, the head of the secretariat of the conference.

The official recounted that the second edition of Tehran Security Conference was well received inside and outside Iran and attracted positive international feedback.

“Also in this year, the procedure to meet the requirements of the conference is already in progression and this briefing session with resident foreign ambassadors in Tehran is in line with it,” the official said.

He also added that according to plans, there are two national seminars scheduled to be held before the conference.

The first seminar is titled ‘Peace and Stability in West Asia; one region, one destiny,’ and is slated to be held jointly by the Strategic Council on Foreign Relations, Foreign Ministry’s Center for Political and International Studies, and the Center for Strategic Examinations. It will be held in a period between late November and December.

“‘Pro-Cooperation Defense-Security Policies in West Asia’ is the title for the second seminar to be jointly held by High National Defense and Strategic Studies University and Research Institute and the Center for Strategic Studies of Defense Diplomacy,” he added.

Also in the same meeting, Kiomars Javidnia, the deputy head of the foundation for international affairs and the head of the international committee of the conference addressed the meeting and made some points.

At the end of the session, a short video clip of the last edition of the conference was screened and the questions posed by the foreign representatives were answered.

The first International Conference on Regional Security Order in West Asia was held in Tehran in December 2016 with the participation of senior foreign experts in the area of regional security.

The main motto of the conference has been dialogue as well as mutual confidence, respect and cooperation among West Asia countries in order to achieve collective security and progress, which relies on cooperation of all regional countries.
