TEHRAN, Jul. 31 (MNA) – Ali Akbar Nategh Nouri, a member of the Expediency Council, said Iran should not without preamble reject US President Trump’s comments that he’s willing to meet with President Rouhani, adding that the request should be discussed at the Supreme National Security Council first.

He told IRNA on Tuesday that the request in itself is nothing bad, and it was predictable that Trump would make that call at some point.

He said it is Trump’s characteristic to make bold statements at first to intimidate the other side into giving in, but when he sees the other side is not yielding to his pressure, he will change tactics and come up with another scenario.

Nategh Nouri’s comments were in response to US President Donald Trump’s call to meet with President Rouhani “Anytime they want," without any preconditions set for such a meeting.

Trump’s willingness for meeting Rouhani is in stark contrast with his all-caps threatening post on Twitter and his unlawful withdrawal from the Iran nuclear agreement.
