He added that the show of strength must be done in a “timely”, “clear” and “decisive” manner.
The Leader made the remarks in a meeting with President Hassan Rouhani and his cabinet members on Sunday.
During the meeting , Ayatollah Khamenei highlighted the country’s capability for overcoming economic woes through relentless efforts of all officials and cooperation from all people, and discussed the conditions and necessities for confronting the enemies’ plots in the current situation.
The Iranian Leader went on to add, “of course, the European sides are required to provide all the necessary guarantees regarding the JCPOA, but Iran’s economy must not be tied down to [their measures] and kept in waiting.”
The meeting took place as the Iran nuclear deal entered its third year on Saturday since it was signed between Iran and the 5+1 group of countries on 14 July 2015. The US president announced on May 8 that Washington was withdrawing from the nuclear agreement and that he plans to reinstate US nuclear sanctions and "the highest level" of economic bans on Iran. The move drew harsh criticism from the international community, with European countries scrambling to ensure that Iran’s economic interests would continue to be met despite US sanctions.
Ayatollah Khamenei then highlighted the need for day-by-day expansion of diplomacy and foreign relations, adding “except for a few instances such as the US, Iran’s relations with the East and the West must be further improved and practical and goal-oriented diplomatic moves must be increased.”
The Leader noted that the condition for success in any arena is having a strong spirit, motivation, courage and determination, and regarded the economy team of Rouhani's administration as the pivot and main actor for action and dynamism in the country and urged all other departments to coordinate with them.
He also called another condition for overcoming troubles, the manifestation of a sovereign image of the government, and said “the image of the government in the eyes of the people must be the image of a capable, effective and endeavoring government; because an endeavoring attitude creates hope and morale in people."
“At the same time, there is no problem with reasonable and constructive criticism of the government. While a great deal of rightful depiction of the government depends on how the officials actually act. That is, the officials must make close contact with the people, laborers and industries, actively getting involved with them," he added.
He then regarded the preparation of a "roadmap for a stable economy" as essential and added, "if a roadmap is outlined, the public and those active in the economy will know how to act and will rush to help the government with a feeling of stability and calmness."
Ayatollah Khamenei’s two other recommendations on the matter were "reinforcement of the private sector" and "the need to confront the outlaws".
Regarding the latter, he pointed out examples of misdoings by some organizations and persons around the recent problems of foreign currencies and gold coins and insisted; "it is imperative to confront the outlaws at any level," he stressed.
The leader described the president's order on Sat. to face the offences committed in importing foreign vehicles as a good measure and said "such orders must, of course, be followed up to result in a conclusive outcome."
He noted that "the government's overseeing and decision-making in financial transactions to prevent destructive operations such as trafficking and money laundering are absolutely necessary."
Ayatollah Khamenei then pointed out some offences committed in using state-provided foreign currency and said, "such offences must be prevented by means of relevant systems of laws and regulations."
The Leader of the Revolution tapped on more indices of a healthy economy by stating that "enforcing resilient economy policies, prompt measures, prevention of maladies and real anti-corruption measures should be fulfilled."
Ayatollah Khamenei further urged the government and officials in charge to primarily confront corruption and the corrupt, and secondly guarantee the disclosure of transparent information when dealing with corruption cases.
