Iranian President Hassan Rouhani left Switzerland for Austria on Tuesday evening, after a two-day stay in the Swiss confederation where he met with Iranian expatriates living in Switzerland, Swiss president, and a host of businesspeople.
The Iranian top executive is accompanied by a high-ranking politico-economic delegation.
Mr. Rouhani, along with his entourage, was welcomed by his Swiss President Alain Berset upon arrival at Zurich international airport and the two had a short meeting at the hotel where President Rouhani was staying an hour after arriving in Switzerland.
During Rouhani’s visit, a number of agreements and declarations of intent were signed by the officails of the two countries.
Following the US pullout from the Iran nuclear deal on May 8, EU has been making efforts to provide Iran with ‘solid guarantees’ that the agreement would continue to serve the country’s economic interests. Iran is waiting for EU’s proposed package that would convince Tehran to stay in the deal despite US sanctions.
