TEHRAN, Jul. 03 (MNA) – According to Russian foreign ministry, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov discussed the Syrian crisis by phone on Monday.

The Russian ministry’s statement adds that the talks between the two senior diplomats focused on some bilateral issues, the groundwork for the scheduled 5th Caspian Sea summit, and ways to settle the Syrian crisis.

Presidents of the five Caspian Sea littoral states - Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Russia and Turkmenistan - will hold a meeting in Kazakhstan’s Aktau in early August. The summit focuses on determining the legal status of the Caspian Sea.
