Mohammad Javad Zarif made the remarks in a ‘press statement’ on his Twitter account in response to US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s recent remarks about possibility of protests in Iran.
Zarif first blasts the United States foreign policy and its futile intervention in Middle Eastern countries, saying “the US government is squandering its citizens’ resources, whether it’s adventurism in Iraq and Afghanistan, its blind support for Israel and other terror-sponsoring regimes, or its wasteful expansion of its nuclear arsenal.”
Then, the Iranian foreign minister “as I have said before, it should surprise no one that protests continue in the US: at the border, at prisons, and in Washington D.C. and all states this weekend.”
He continues “the American people are demanding their leaders share the country’s wealth and respond to their legitimate needs, so that 40 million Americans won’t live below the poverty line in the world’s richest nation.”
The Iranian top diplomat adds “we condemn the US government same futile tactics of suppression, imprisonment of protestors, separation of immigrant families and caging of their babies, and denial of Americans’ frustrations. The people of America are tired of the corruption, injustice, and incompetence from their leaders.”
At the end of his statement, Zarif warns the US leaders “the world hears their voice (the American people’s voice).”
