TEHRAN, Jun. 26 (MNA) – In a meeting with some Iraqi intellectuals, Senior Aide to Iranian Leader Ali Akbar Velayati said that Iran and Iraq have many common areas for expanding cooperation, and that US is the common enemy of the two nations.

In his Tuesday remarks, Velayati touched upon some major common grounds between Iran and Iraq which encourage increased relations of the two countries in their foreign policies.

“First, we are neighbors with 1200 km of common borders,” he highlighted.

Next, Iran and Iraq have many common grounds regarding religion, culture and history, he added.

Then, “we are the most democratic Islamic countries since the government is appointed by people’s votes,” Velayati noted.

He went on to say that both states mount resistance to the Zionist regime and excessive demands of the United Sates.

Iran and Iraq have great energy resources and they both have had significant role in Islamic civilizations during last 1400 years, he said.

“And US is our common enemy,” he emphasized.
