TEHRAN, May 05 (MNA) – Iran’s minister of science said Sat. Iran is interested in promoting scientific cooperation with Russia in the Caspian Sea to improve its ecosystem.

Iran’s Minister of Science, Research and Technology Mansour Gholami met and talked with Russian president’s special representative for humanitarian cooperation with the Caspian countries Ramazan Abdulatipov in Tehran on Saturday.

In the meeting, Gholami expressed his happiness with the cultural and historical proximities between Iran and many parts of the Russian Federation, saying those commonalties provide an appropriate ground for strong scientific cooperation between the two countries.

"The universities of the littoral countries of the Caspian Sea have formed a union that has facilitated the scientific cooperation between those countries for 20 years now," according to the Iranian minister.

Praising the high scientific level of Iranian universities for conducting scientific researches, Gholami expressed Iran’s readiness to work on large projects in cooperation with Russia to tackle major problems in the Caspian Sea.

The Iranian official added that 13 Iranian universities are already cooperating with their Russian counterparts, expecting the cooperation between the two sides would increase.

Gholami went on to stress that the Iranian universities welcome cooperation with other countries’ scientific centers, particularly those of neighboring countries.
