TEHRAN, Apr. 26 (MNA) – The assailant who broke the glasses of some windows in Interests Section of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the United States on Wednesday afternoon was arrested by American secret service.

An armed man entered the interests section of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Washington DC on Wednesday morning and threatened the personnel and the visitors before breaking glasses windows and some equipment there, Iran’s IRIB reported.

The man who was in possession of a gun and a knife had entered the office as a visitor along with other visitors of the office.

According to eye witnesses, the assailant repeated slogans against the Islamic Republic of Iran and hit one of the staff on the head. The staff member has been hospitalized.

Service to clients was completely closed. The assailant has been arrested by the American Secret Service.

The incident took place at Pakistan's embassy, which houses the Iranian interests section as Iran and the US severed diplomatic relations in 1979.

The Secret Service said in a statement that agents responded to reports of shots fired. The agents determined that no shots had been fired, but they arrested a man in possession of a weapon. He was charged with assault.

Authorities haven't released his identity.
