BEIJING, Apr. 24 (MNA) – Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov called upon all parties concerned in the rebuilding of Syria to act in the interests of the Syrian people and out of total respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Syria.

Lavrov made his remarks during a meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in the Chinese capital, Beijing.

“As for economic reconstruction, this will take time and I am convinced that we should all act in the interests of the Syrian people and out of total respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Syria,” he said.

The Russian diplomat underscored that he said this because some states are pursuing a policy of destroying Syria, adding that “the US pledged that their only aim was to repel terrorists from Syria, to defeat the so-called “Islamic State,” but, despite all their claims, despite President Trump’s claims, the US is actually positioning itself on the Eastern bank of the Euphrates and have no intention of leaving.

He expressed hope that “after contacts with the French colleagues we will make it clear how we will cooperate on the Syrian settlement to observe all rules and norms of the international law and the United Nations Charter.”
